From Judah's Cloud to Little Cloud

Judah’s Cloud was created in 2017 after our own experience of loss. We received incredible care and memory making options that positioned us well to recover as much as possible and continue with our lives without our son. Hearing of variations in care and memory making options due to location and gestation, we wanted to make as many of the options we had available to more families. Meeting the needs of these families and creating precious memories of their beautiful babies has always remained at the heart of what we do. We recognise this is no longer a family led micro charity that supports a handful of hospitals, but instead is growing into something that could support thousands of bereaved families each year. To do this we need to adapt, develop and grow.

A big change you will immediately notice, is we are rebranding in order to support reaching more families. From 29th April 2024, our name will now be changing to “Little Cloud” and in line with this our website and emails will change also. I wanted to take a moment to explain this decision fully, as it’s been such a huge step for everyone involved. Removing Judah’s name from the charity was a natural progression for a few reasons:

1. The name Judah holds Jewish or biblical connotations, something we felt didn’t serve the demographic of all our beneficiaries. We want our services to be accessible to anyone who may need them, and we’d never want anyone to have preconceived ideas about our services not being for them.

2. The name is often misheard or misspelled, leaving us issues with follow up from the services we provide. We’ve taken time to assess some of the ways we can provide more than just a point of contact service, instead building a longer relationship with our beneficiaries. We believe having a more recognisable name will help with this.

3. As a family, since we had Judah, we’ve had two little rainbow babies. We talk about him and include him in our family life everyday, but we’ve recognised that they struggle to understand the difference between Judah and Judah’s Cloud. I wanted to include this point to make it clear that this is a family decision as much as it is an organisational decision.

More importantly than anything else, the purpose of the charity has always been to meet the needs of other families and not to satisfy our own need to continue on our baby’s memory. The inclusion of Judah’s name was right for us all at the start, but as we move towards a season where excluding his name does not leave us with guilt or insecurity about his memory, it’s now time to move into something that is more accessible for the people that matter most…our bereaved families.

We hope this blog has helped to explain why we’re moving in this direction and has given a little insight into the future of the charity. We’re here to answer any questions you may have, and please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’ve added a list of emails below for you to get in touch if needed.

Jenny, Chris and the Little Cloud team x
